This project is part of museumaker, a national partnership between makers, museums and visitors involving 16 museums across the country.
I am working with Woodhorn Museum near Newcastle to create a range of retail products exclusively for their shop based on The Ashington Group, a group of miners who started painting and produced an incredible, inspiring body of work, transforming their own and others perceptions of themselves.
My products 'Coal Bowl' and 'Plaque Plate' express a transformation from the everyday to the unique and special. The unexpected hidden potential of the product is revealed in its use and material. The products capture, communicate and celebrate the essence of The Ashington Group and reflect the personality and quality of Woodhorn's collections.
I am also lucky enough to have support from Kit Grover who is the retail consultant for Woodhorn on this project and draw on his extensive experience as the leading company for specialist and bespoke products created for the museum, gallery and cultural sector.
'Coal Bowl' and 'Plaque Plate' will be on sale at the Woodhorn Museum shop from 12th June 2010.
